A pedestrian was struck and killed on a stretch of I-95 in an early morning incident, Connecticut State Police said.

Troopers were dispatched to the stretch of the interstate shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, where there was a report of a car that struck a pedestrian between exits 70 and 69 in Old Saybrook.

The victim, Killingworth resident Richard Dupre, Jr., 51, was hit by a 1997 Jeep driven by Clinton resident Andrew Sikorowicz, while Dupre was in the right center lane of the interstate, police said. Sikorowicz was unable to avoid the pedestrian, and struck him, according to police. Dupre was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident temporarily closed down the southbound side of the interstate as police investigated. All lanes have since reopened. Police said that the case remains under investigation.
